It seems like every year, there are a handful of players who come out of nowhere and make a name for themselves in the preseason. A majority of them never pan out and fade into obscurity, but a select few rise from the roster bubble to the big show.
Names like Henry Josey, the second leading rusher in the 2014 preseason, will be brought up while sitting at a bar, Marvin McNutt, Hank Baskett, and Damaris Johnson were all thought to be the next great receiver for the Birds, but in the end, all of four eventually became distant memories.
But every once in a while, though, the training camp a darling gets immortalized in the hearts of Eagles fans. Corey Clement went from an undrafted free agent to a Super Bowl 52 hero, Jordan Mailata transformed from a seventh-round pick into an elite left tackle right before our eyes, and even Vince Papale went from a World Football League castoff to a core special teams contributor. That is a part of the beauty of this game; when hard work and preparation meet opportunity, anything can happen.
Before the Philadelphia Eagles season unofficially kicks off against the New York Jets, here are three candidates who could be preseason darlings. These young men were either late-round draft picks or signed in the UDFA period, and they have been garnering enough attention in training camp to justify a little extra attention this preseason.
