A camping trip’s success hinges on the quality of the food, but it’s tough to be a master chef in the middle of the forest. If you bring along pre-made meals, you risk them going bad or leaking in your bag, and if you bring along ingredients, you’re liable to anger the forest spirits or get some dirt in your onion.

The trick is to get camping-specific items, and right now I’m pretty into this Cast Iron camp cooker.

Its 17 5-star reviews and a 4.3-star average rating is pretty solid (the best for a product of its kind on Amazon), but what really impresses me is the versatility: Pretty much anything that you can put on bread can be made into a toasted, hot sandwich with this, and most stuff is pretty good on bread, because bread is delicious. You can go traditional with ham and cheese, or try and sneak healthy food into your trip by adding, you know, vegetables or whatever.

One thing to keep in mind is that most cast iron cookware is a good choice for camping. Since there are no plastic handles or caps to melt off, they’ll be unharmed by extreme heat or even being placed directly in the fire. The only issue is that they’re somewhat heavy, which the camp cooker mitigates by being travel-sized.

Speaking of size, it comes in three others: Single, Single Broiler, and Double Broiler -- though only the Double is on sale as of this writing.
