Rockvale junior quarterback Brennan Mayhew threw three touchdowns, including two from 64 yards and 57 yards out, as the Rockets defeated Siegel 27-10 at home Friday night.

Mayhew was 15 of 25 for 264 yards and three touchdowns as the Rockets won their region opener.

After an Eban Braiser 27-yard field goal, Mayhew went to work. After a 15-yard completion to Nolan Dunkley, he threw a pass to Jaylan Morgan, who had it in his hands, then juggled it but snared it and ran to the end zone for the first of his two touchdown receptions on the night. The catch was 64 yards to give Rockvale a 10-0 early advantage.

"I was scared to death of that one," Rockvale Brian Guthrie said. "We give our quarterback all kinds of options, and if this offense can execute and he does what he does on Friday nights, we have potential for our offense,"

In the first half, Siegel could not get out of its own way as penalties and mistakes haunted the Stars. Siegel had four personal foul penalties in the first half for 49 yards.

"We had too many mistakes," Siegel coach Adam Renshaw said. "We played a better second half, but we got too far behind and were scrambling. We have to come in and fix the problems."

Rockvale added to the lead when Mayhew tossed a 9-yard pass to Anthony Thiphavong, who had six catches for 46 yards.

Rockvale had a commanding 20-0 lead at halftime when Braser hit another short field goal from 21 yards out.

Siegel came out and scored on its first two drives as Blake Schofield drilled a 40-yard field goal. Thomas Santel, who came in and played in the second quarter for Cordell Cagle, found Kevin Endsley from 10 yards out for the Stars' final score.

Rockvale scored one more late in the third period when Mayhew dropped back and fired downfield to an open Morgan, who caught the ball in stride and raced into the end zone for a 57-yard score.

Morgan had two catches for 121 yards.
